Collectively we have over 80 years of industry experience in supplying and installing flooring to both the trade and public. Tony started his time in the industry working in the office of a flooring wholesaler. He quickly progressed to becoming one of their area sales managers and spent 6 years looking after key accounts within south London and Surrey. During this time Tony became particularly interested in the hard flooring side of the industry and when an opportunity arose for him to join a team of just 5 specialist individuals covering the entire UK for European wood and laminate flooring manufacturers he jumped at the opportunity. Spending 3 years doing this and increasing his knowledge and understanding was a perfect way to lay down some great foundations and knowledge to start his own company supplying quality materials and a superior service. In 2003 Tony created the company and started supplying and installing wood and laminate flooring to the public. In 2006 Tony’s wife (Karen) joined the business and collectively they started the internet based side of their business. This grew very quickly and it wasn’t long before they had their own premises offering a small trade counter style showroom alongside the ever growing web based business. Fast forward 10 years and the local side of supplying and installing quality flooring has grown exponentially and following the recruitment of Tony and Karen’s daughter Chloe, our first showroom was created.
As time continued Tony, Karen and Chloe began to realise that it wasn’t possible to offer the level of advice, knowledge and service that they wanted to over the internet. With courier companies continually letting customers down by missing expected delivery dates and damaging goods etc it was realised that although the principle of ‘popping it on a van for delivery’ was the same as it would be for a CD or book, the reality was that you cannot beat seeing and feeling the flooring in a showroom environment, or receiving professional face to face advice in order to make the right product decisions and then know that you are getting the right advice, products and quality of installation.
Fast forward a little more and we find ourselves in the present day where we have the largest independent flooring showroom in Gravesend, full of the right products at the right price to suit our customers. Our team has grown to include another full time fitter (Chris) and our full time apprentice (also called Chris).
Tony, Chris and Chris are all fully trained and although ‘little Chris’ has less years of industry experience, they have been very intense years of training with the right methods and tutors both inside and outside of our company. Chris’ enrolment into the Floorskills apprenticeship program and ongoing support and knowledge sharing with his peers and colleagues meant that after less than 2 years of being in the flooring industry he achieved the fantastic accolade of QuickStep Master Installer and became the UK’s youngest ever Balterio Master Installer too. ‘Big Chris’ has been installing flooring for almost 40 years specialising mainly in carpets but can turn his hand to hard flooring when needed. He too has attended many training courses to further boost his knowledge and skills. With 20 years of fitting experience plus his prior industry experience Tony has also attended many training courses and industry seminars furthering his knowledge and skills and is also a Quickstep Master Installer and a Balterio Master Installer. Tony also works on a sub contracted basis for Floorskills Independent Inspection services (offering an independent and expert view when there is a dispute between a consumer and a retailer or manufacturer), and also works as a fitting standards assessor for Floorskills training centre.
